Card counting in Blackjack
There are many methods and strategies that a blackjack player can utilize when playing blackjack. One of the more popular but very misunderstood strategy used in blackjack is Card Counting. What does card counting mean? Card counting is a game strategy that is used in order to get an informed idea of when a player has an advantage at the blackjack table. The term “card counting” is used almost exclusively to refer to the tracking of the ratio of high card with respect to the low cards when playing blackjack. Card counting is also used to refer to getting a count of the distribution of the remaining high cards in trick taking games like bridge.
The concept of card counting is based on the fact that high cards are considered as good for the player while low cards are considered as beneficial to the dealer. The high cards are good because it increases the chances of getting a “blackjack”. Low cards, on the other hand, benefit the dealer because it decreases the chance of a dealer going bust.
Players who use a card counting strategy raise their bets when the ratio of high cards to low cards actually favors them. They also make changes in their overall strategy when they achieve this ratio. These changes and mathematical advantages work together go give players an edge over the dealer.
It is a complete myth to think that you need near genius mental faculties in order to acquire a talent for card counting. Card counting is not about tracking and memorizing playing cards, it is about assigning a point score to each car and determining the total score.
