Classic Blackjack Mistakes. Part 2

Another huge mistake that players in blackjack tend to make is to let their psychology become affected by what other players do and the decisions that they make. For example, in an offline casino- while you are sitting pretty on 20, and a player is sitting to your left and does something pretty stupid, like hit on a 15 while the dealer is sitting on a 6- and then, inevitably, this player pulls a 10 and goes bust, while the dealer consequently pulls a 10 and then a 5 to make 21- you are likely to feel enraged! If that player hadn’t been so foolish, then the dealer would have drawn two 10s and gone bust!

There are two major reasons why getting into this mindset can be lethal to your play. Firstly, it can create a negative vibe for you- which starts making it an unpleasant experience for you, the other players, the dealer- everyone. And when this happens- don’t ask me why, the cards will likely take a dislike to you as well. I know that this may seem erratic and unlikely- given the mathematical mechanisms and nature of the game- but therein lies the charm and the element that keeps gamblers so utterly fascinated. There is this “something” which is intangible and mythical about gambling- and you becoming “angry”, a “sore loser” or a “blamer” just creates an atmosphere that is not condusive to winning.

The second reason why it is bad for you to worry about the calls of other players is that it is illogical. In the end of the day, it is between you and the house, or in this case- the dealer. What the other players do is irrelevant. The error of that player might have just as easily have caused you to win the hand, as to lose it. What is more- as you will be playing with at least a 4 pack deck, if not a 6 pack deck- the subsequent hands will also be affected by that extra 10 being drawn. In other words, when you go ahead and get a blackjack the very next hand, you’re going look a bit foolish!
