Types of Hole Card Play

In the previous post, we talked about hold card play – a term loosely used to encompass various types of plays whereby the blackjack player can determine the dealer’s hole card. Though particularly effective, this kind of play is controversial at the very least. In fact, there have been people who have been jailed because of this kind of play. So what are the different techniques people use to determine the dealer’s hole card?
Blackjack Forum Online presents the following:
First Basing:
This is precisely the type of blackjack hole-card play described above, as engaged in by Einbinder and Dalben.
The article talks about the two men playing in such a manner wherein on sits in a position wherein he can actually see the dealer’s hole card. This usually happens when the dealer has to check his card in case it is an ace or 10 for a possible blackjack. The position is called first base and the player sitting there bets the minimum all the time. Whenever he gets any information, he signals to his partner, who is seated in another position and who can then make his play according to what the first base person tells him.
Obviously, this kind of play is considered cheating by many. I have to agree with this. After all, the person who is making high bets (the one not in first base) is not playing based on his own skill but on insider information.
More techniques in the next post.
