Back to the Original Single-deck Blackjack

Blackjack sure has gotten more and more popular. So much so that most players are not that aware of the difference between good old-fashioned blackjack (single-deck games) and the varieties that have cropped up. Not that much of a big deal right, as long as you get to enjoy the game. Wrong! At least if you want to get the benefits of good old fashioned single-deck blackjack games.

Some of the reasons why you should be on the look out for the original single-deck games include:

  • card counting – If you want to be able to count cards stay away from the games that use continuous shuffling machines. They make it impossible to keep count! With a single deck card you can count cards and (if you know what you are doing) have a good chance of actually winning instead of losing money. Card counting when multiple decks are used is possible but it is more complicated. Your best bet, unless you’ve mastered counting, is to stick with single deck games.
  • payoff – Many players just sit down without asking about the payoff. Make sure that if you choose a 3:2 single-deck game (The casino pays $3 for every $2 originally bet). Some single-deck games actually pay 6 to 5, which means that your profit margin is much less, and since you want to maximise your winnings then this is the wrong table to choose.
