Florida Has Blackjack Addiction Problem

It seems that people from this sunny state are getting more and more addicted to the game of blackjack. At least that’s what the reports are showing. About a year ago, the case was quite different. According to the Miami Herald, it was poker that was a “problem” back then. Now, blackjack has risen to a whole new different level. Um, could it be because Florida has had more casinos offering blackjack?

Brandenton Herald ran a similar story earlier this week:

MIAMI — A growing number of people calling the state’s gambling help line are asking for help with blackjack addiction.

The Miami Herald reports that a year ago, poker was the main vice of those addicted to playing cards.

In January, 43 percent of the card players seeking help for addiction cited blackjack as their game. A year earlier, only 9 percent identified themselves as blackjack players, with the rest blaming poker for their problem.

Seminole casinos began offering blackjack last year.

Overall, calls to the state’s help line are steadily rising. Nearly one call a day now is from a blackjack player. More than half the total calls for help originate from South Florida.

See – even other people (who I suppose are more objective than I am when it comes to blackjack) can see that the whole addiction thing is not surprising – if we can even call it addiction. Blackjack has been offered starting the prior year, guess what? People will begin playing it and some will feel addicted to it.

The only worry I have at this point is that critics might start pouncing on blackjack. Naturally, the Seminoles will have a harder time justifying their offering. Seriously though, stay away from the tables if you cannot control yourself!
